Charlie arrives and after watching the others a bit, orders a scotch and a cheese sandwich. The arrival of both impress him. Penny can tell he's in a band. She explains Milliways and disabuses his notion that "the end of the universe" means they're all dead. Charlie is rather fascinated by the notion of angels, gods and demons (a question he will ask quite a few people when he meets them). He then gets a room and promises Penny a song at some point. They say goodnight and Charlie goes to his room to sleep.]

Charlie gets dinner from Dionysius and is happy to meet his first god. Dionysius points out the muse of music and Charlie wonders where he's seen her before.

Mainly because she's a pretty woman and alone [and because the muns know each other :D], Charlie introduces himself to Moiraine. He tells her of the plane crash and how he ended up at Milliways. She explains being Bound and why a person may be Bound to the bar. He asks her if she's an angel, god or demon and bets she's an angel. Moiraine is amused, serenely, and demonstrates the powers of saidar. Charlie is gobsmacked [because the the mun likes saying gobsmacked] and Moiraine wonders if he felt something more. He didn't but wants to see more, but still is mildly freaked out at the demonstration of her powers and goes out to the lake to straighten out his head.

On the advice of Moiraine and Dionysus Charlie introduces himself to Tere, the muse of music. She explains what the muses are and he wonders if he's heard her sing in his dreams. As he leaves she gives him a bass guitar.

In conversation with Penny Charlie learns of Faustus and Gavroche and is puzzled at all the kids running around. Penny tells him about the tab board and gives him a tour, and then they leave to go for a walk around the lake.]

Withdrawls begin to set in. Bartleby offers handmade tea instead of bar-made. Charlie denies anything's wrong and asks his question: Bartleby says, "Angel, technically." He almost asks Bartleby if he knows where to score but stops himself, though Bartleby is not fooled, because, "Dude. Angel." Charlie retorts he's a bassist, and reacts badly when Bartleby attempts to probe his mind. He admits to the addiction, and Bartleby says he's tried it too. He skims over an explanation of his past. Charlie admits to wanting to quit but it's hard, and Bartleby offers to help, telling him to find him when the pain is more than he can handle. Charlie accepts gratefully.

Penny also observes that he looks like hell. He shows her the blisters on his fingers from playing the guitar too much after not playing at all for so long. He asks for her help in quitting heroin: she is sympathetic. He apologizies to her on behalf of everyone who's also chosen the drugs. She offers to do what she can when he's hurting.
