ooc meme-ness: a few things about Charlie
Apr. 7th, 2005 02:39 pm- Charlie tells himself he's perfectly able to function without his
big brother, but notice how he never turns down having Liam take care
of him. Charlie still relies on Liam a lot, whether he realizes it
consciously or not.
- Want to win Charlie's heart? Praise his music. He often wonders if people understand how important it is to him--he even wonders why Bartleby never seems to take advantage of the "dating a musician" thing. He does joke about the quality of his singing voice but secretly, he really likes it, raspy and grumbly as it may be.
- Liam and Charlie shared a bed until Liam was about ten, and even
after that Charlie would often sleep with him if he had a bad dream or
their parents were fighting. That's where the "I hate to sleep alone"
comes from. If he has company, he can--and will--fall asleep in seconds
and sleep deeply, no matter where they are.
- The surest way to hurt Charlie is to make him feel used. This is tied in with why committment scares him so much: why would anybody want him, the scruffy little musician, unless they want him because of the fame/the money/the drugs? Deep down he's certain that giving his heart to someone will only end in betrayal, so he does the betraying first. (That Bartleby not only forgives him but takes him back after these incidents is mind-boggling and just makes Charlie love him more.)
- But loving Seth is really very good for him: it's
unconditional, completely selfless, and its own reward. He can only
grow up from it.
- He may never completely recover from killing Ethan, even if he tells himself and everyone else he's fine.
- The vampires of his acquaintance fascinate him--eternal youth, what rock star doesn't want that?--but he's certain he could never take another life to feed himself.
- He does not see himself as small, all tinycute jokes aside.
- He is terrified of becoming an addict again, though he hasn't
acknowledged the sexual addiction issues to himself yet. It's easier
with material things, the drinking and the drugs; the sex, though, he
still just thinks of as comfort. (Which the drugs were too. He'll see
the parallels eventually.)
- He's named his guitar after his mother.
ETA:
- The abusive childhood is conjecture, not canon. Just some of Charlie's behaviors, how insular Liam and Charlie are, and that Charlie's only mentioned his mother as far as family--it makes sense to me.
- He considers David his best friend. He's not sure how to make himself want to stop sleeping with David, though.
- He's determined not to hurt Bartleby again. No more sleeping around. He's telling himself the ring doesn't mean anything but "I love you" but deep down? It means . . . a little more.
